Our Culture, Our Telecommunication.

 

The Arrival of the now defunct Telecommunication services provider 'VMoblie' to Okeho and Kajola local government at large, 17 years ago ushered in some fresh hope within Okeho and its immediate environment serving us with thoughts of catching up with the global world without difficulty. With due intelligence, the elite class accepted this big development and 17 years after, I take a look at what good and bad Telecommunication has done to our community.

The arrival of new other Telecommunications companies have surely done the trick and saved a lot of people from box number, envelope, pen and sheets also the stress of waiting for days if not months before they get reply from their loved ones. The two way Radio system have not only erased pen and sheet format, it has brought video calls as complementary to our infamous Lan Phone Network, however, this question keep coming every day, how many Pepper and Elubo trader in Okeho and it environment can make bank transaction with their mobile or smart phones ? I'm afraid only 23% can; my research states furthermore that a large number of youth within the town have not caught up with the latest trends and money making opportunity on the smarts phones they possess, rather they are always on old trends, alarmist news and all sort of social vices.

 

Should we blame it on the service provider Tariffs, Charges and Data plans ? It won't be fair on them because Iseyin our close neighbor gave aged people, and youths who are maximizing the full effect of their mobile and smart phone. We just might have gotten it wrong ourselves due to our cultural attitude to development which is evident in all facets of life.

Our educational system have failed at a higher degree compared to other communities of our type , this I believe is the cause of our backwardness with this new but old communication system and it starts with our teachers who can't communicate properly using emails and new social media inventions, how then does a teacher who can't use his/her mail box impact the up coming generation that have parents who barely can save phone contacts when they meet new friends. I'm of the opinion that should we improve/revive our computer laboratory in schools, we are taking the first step in the right directions.

The Various Youth association/Social club  In town now, sole objective is party after party , they aren't built to connect with the outside world and share in great developments such as , crypto currency exchange, Content creator, Developers , Branding e.t.c our Primitive social life of the past keep spreading on the new generation and it stops them from us fulfilling the joy we felt 17years back. What stops the local government from checkmating the activities and objectives of this social clubs and associations. I feel should this be done properly, it will go a long way in bringing Okeho back to global map.

Adult education classes in Okeho used to be functional now it can simply be described as something of the past. It’s revival will go a long way in putting us on the right direction. People who fail to plan they said plan to fail, our blind eyes to how other communities promote their political sons and daughters is another reason why they have become more successful politically and we have been a step backward , now is the time to start using telecommunication services to our own advantage, tell the outside world our discoveries and  embrace the beautiful ideas from the outside world.
