In Shadows of Pride and Vanity

In Shadows of Pride and Vanity

In the quiet chambers of the soul,
Where pride resides, alone and whole,
A silent strength, a hidden flame,
That fears the world might doubt its claim.

Timid steps in the face of light,
For pride, though strong, avoids the fight.
It holds its worth in secret trust,
Yet fears the gaze that turns to dust.

But vanity, with eyes that gleam,
Lives in the world, a different dream.
It thrives on whispers, glances bold,
A mirror’s tale in stories told.

Boldness walks where pride may shy,
With vanity, it learns to fly.
For in the gaze of others’ praise,
A fearless heart, its path will blaze.

Yet neither pride nor vanity stands alone,
They dance together, flesh and bone.
A balance struck in the human heart,
Each plays its role, each has its part.

So let them blend, these sisters two,
For in their union, courage grew.
A little vanity to light the way,
And pride to guard, but not to sway.
